Legs and Lines - Pointed toes and legs for days, creating shapes with our legs, kicks and flicks, bend and lunge. We'll spend this session just focusing on our lower body and the myriad of ways we can use our lovely legs.
Steps and Turns - Walking, strutting and moving with intention, tighter turns and direction changes. We'll practice different styles of walks and turns, then combining week 1's fundamentals learn a short sequence of choreography featuring, you guessed it, our legs.
From Your Core to Your Fingertips - posture, arms, hands. Elongated lines, strength and softness. Drawing on Lydia's background we will learn classic cheerleading and ballet arm movements, and pull those disciplines into burlesque adaptations
Giving Face and Giving Head - audience eye contact, a coy glance away, choreography for your face. We will literally sit and stare at our beautiful faces in the mirrors and practise adding facial expressions to music. We'll practice on each other, then practice a choreographed sequence of headography
Tempo and Timing - Stillness and flow, we'll learning the same snippet of choreo, highlighting the juxtaposition between movement and stillness, smooth and sharp movements. Oh, and we'll learn it at two different tempos!
Musical Analysis and Choreo Scaffolding - Identifying peaks and valleys, points of interest in music, and translating to choreography ideas and key moments in an act. This is a sit down, pencil and paper class. We'll listen to different pieces of music and go over different techniques for mapping music and planning out the bones of an act.
Costuming 101 - Planning, styling, budgeting, removability, working with different fabrics, your costume as a prop. This is another theory based class, byo note taking gear! We'll chat all things burlesque costume, focussing on planning a costume from the base up! This also builds perfectly on from last week's music/choreo session. Lydia will also have a costume Q&A for any costume/sewing questions you might have. If you'd like to bring a specific costume piece to ask advice about, feel free!
The Unglamour of Admin - Branding, Bios, and Signatures, Act Info Submission/MC notes. Crash course in everything from stage names, performer personas, versatility, developing your own stage style, to submitting act info and writing notes for MCs. Another sit down, theory based class, perfect for the summer heat!
